Exercise-specific guidance

The written setup and steps on this page are tailored to this exact exercise variation.

Movement sequence

  1. Hold the kettlebell close to the chest, set the feet in a comfortable stance, and feel pressure through the heel, base of the big toe, and base of the little toe.
  2. Bend the knees and hips together, keeping the knees in line with the toes and the weight close to the torso.
  3. Descend only as far as you can keep the feet grounded and trunk controlled, then press through the whole foot to stand tall.

Form cues

  • Keep the bell close
  • Knees follow toes
  • Use the whole foot

Common mistakes

  • Letting the heels lift to chase depth
  • Holding the kettlebell away from the chest

Scale it

Easier: Use a lighter kettlebell or squat to a box target.

Harder: Add load or range gradually while the same foot pressure and knee path remain repeatable.
