Equipment and setup
One kettlebell held close to the chest by the horns or handle. Stand on a clear surface with the feet in a comfortable squat stance.
The written setup and steps on this page are tailored to this exact exercise variation.
Movement sequence
- Hold the kettlebell close to the chest, set the feet in a comfortable stance, and feel pressure through the heel, base of the big toe, and base of the little toe.
- Bend the knees and hips together, keeping the knees in line with the toes and the weight close to the torso.
- Descend only as far as you can keep the feet grounded and trunk controlled, then press through the whole foot to stand tall.
Form cues
- Keep the bell close
- Knees follow toes
- Use the whole foot
Common mistakes
- Letting the heels lift to chase depth
- Holding the kettlebell away from the chest
Scale it
Easier: Use a lighter kettlebell or squat to a box target.
Harder: Add load or range gradually while the same foot pressure and knee path remain repeatable.
