Equipment and setup
A barbell with secure plates. Use a rack and safety arms when the exercise calls for them.
The written setup and steps on this page are tailored to this exact exercise variation.
Movement sequence
- Set the bar over the midfoot, brace, and begin the clean by driving through the floor while keeping the bar close.
- Extend the hips and guide the bar into a secure front-rack position with the elbows forward.
- Reset the trunk, press the bar overhead to a stacked finish, then lower it through the rack with control.
Form cues
- Keep the bar close
- Own the front rack
- Re-brace before pressing
Common mistakes
- Curling the bar slowly with the arms
- Pressing before the front-rack position is stable
Scale it
Easier: Practice the clean and overhead press separately with light load.
Harder: Increase load only after the catch and overhead finish stay consistent.
